Blog assignment for Wednesday, September 4.

For September 4, the assignment is to read pages 183-193 in The Jews: A History, as well as an article on Sakai (in the Resources folder, from the folder marked as readings for 2013) by Annette B. Fromm on "Hispanic Culture in Exile."

Your blog entry for Wednesday should cover two topics:

First, introduce yourself to the class - what are your academic and personal interests, and how do they relate to your reasons for taking a class on Jewis history? This is a way for us to get to know each other a little better.

Second, write a paragraph on one of these questions about Fromm's article:

• What were the conditions of life for Jews in the Ottoman Empire, especially its Balkan provinces? 
•  What were the different Jewish communities there and how did they co-exist? 
• What of Hispanic culture did the Sephardim bring with them? 
• What was the Millet system?
