What is the millet system?
The millet system was an Ottoman Empire policy that said that Jews and Christians were separate nations. This policy gave each "nation" the ability to have their own welfare system and their own laws. Jews were allowed to have their own synagogues and Christians their own churches. The policy was put in place to make sure that the Muslims and non-Muslims would remain peaceful. The millet system was a good way to make sure that everyone was happy and peace could remain within the empire.

My name is Danny Kopilnick and I am a junior television radio major. My favorite thing to do is watch and talk about sports with my friends. I one day want to work in sports television. I took Jews in the Modern World because I plan on going on Birth Right this summer and I want to know more about Judaism and where I came from. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch but I came to Ithaca College to play lacrosse along with my education. I no longer play because of concussions but I still love my teammates and friends.
