Hannah Wolinsky

Hi, my name is Hannah Wolinsky. I am a sophomore transfer student at Ithaca College. I am a psychology major and I want to ultimately work in equine therapy. The reason I am taking this class is to improve upon my knowledge of Judaism. I have attended Jewish private school most of my life, but I feel that there is always more to learn about the culture and traditions of Judaism. I hope to gain more knowledge about myself as a Jew, as well as Jews as a whole. I am passionate about horseback riding, meeting new people, and always trying to have fun.

The Millet System is a system that recognized Jews and Christians as separate groups. It is a system that accepted all different religious beliefs and didn’t force any policies or rules on any religion. Jews and Christians were entitled to their own place of worship and schooling. Each religious group had their own courts, roads, buildings, and schools. This was the Ottoman Empire’s way of tolerating religious difference. This was done to avoid any conflicts or revolts. Jews and Christians were able to be who they wanted to be and have the professions they wanted. There were no laws being forced upon them for the first time in a long time.
