Blog Questions 10/11

1. What is the Musar Movment?

The Musar movement refers to the movement within Judaism especially in Eastern Europe. The Musar movement places emphasis on strict discipline during prayer and study of the Torah. Through discipline, one would become closer to God.

2. What kind of education did boys and men receive in the Yeshiva?

Students in the Yeshiva, typically single men between the ages of 18 and 25, studied the Torah intensively. The goal was to achieve a Liberal arts education that was centered around having a deep and comprehensive understanding of the Torah. The students were not being trained to become rabbi's. This was very different then how most school's approached studying the Torah, as most students that studied it so intently were trying to be rabbi's.
