    3. Q: JAH pp. 339-340 surveys Jewish professions and the rising number of Jews in Europe. What professions were particularly favored by Jews? What kinds of trade did Jews concentrate in?

    A: The professions of medicine, law, physicians, teachers, business, and finance were favored by Jews. Places like Budapest (51%), Odessa (49%), and Berlin (40%) were where Jews were lawyers. For Jewish physicians, Poland was the place to be with places such as Lodz (83%), Vilna (74%), Lvov (71%), and Warsaw (66%). In addition to this, 43% of Poland’s teachers were Jewish. As for the world of business, 60% of German Jews partook in commerce. In regards to finance, 90% of industry in Hungary was financed by Jewish banks. For trade, Jews concentrated in cosmetics, show manufacturing, leather goods, clothing, and textiles.
