Nov. 11 questions

2) The Jewish experience in these new states was nothing new. They were not welcomed by those that “ruled” the states and were discriminated against, per usual. They were shut out of the new economies by discrimination. Even if in Ukraine Jews were represented in central government and enjoyed considerable autonomy, in terms of the social aspect, Jews were raped, looted and murdered by Ukrainian peasants between 1919 and 1921. Germany blamed the Jews for the defeat in WWI and the postwar suffering that occurred. Especially with the rise of the Nazi regime, the Jews were very much hated.

3) Many Jews held jobs in law and medicine. Many others held jobs in commerce and business. They were prominent in banks and the stock exchange. The poorer Jews worked in commercial factories, in fact most of the Jews working places like this and Jews of the professions were less prominent. Jews involved in trade focused on leather goods, textiles, clothing, and shoe manufacture. Many Jews held jobs pertaining to cosmetics. Jews working in agriculture however, were little to none.
