Questions

1. What were the effects of World War I on Jews in Eastern Europe (Pale of Settlement and Galicia)?
The effect WWI on the Jews in Eastern Europe was the Pale of Settlement, which was given to Imperial Russia which allowed Jews who already lived there to stay, but no new Jews were allowed to come. Many Jews were forced to live outside this pale, which stretched from the eastern pale to the western Russian border. Jews that no longer wanted to stay here fled to Galicia. During this time there was conflict between the Ukraine and Poland, where the Jews stayed neutral and were commended for that.

3. What was the "Jew Count" of 1916 in Germany?

The Jew count of 1916 was created by the German military to see how patriotic these German Jews were to their country. As expected, the Jews were not patriotic, and the results were published in an antiemetic brochure.

  1. Your answer to the first question is confusing - these were not the effects of WWI on Jews in the Pale and Galicia.
Second answer is incorrect - the results of the Jew Count showed that Jews served in the German military in higher proportions than other Germans.
